Hummus has been my favorite appetizer for years. It doesn’t give you the feeling of guilt even when you eat a little too much. The healthy but rich flavor is an ideal combination for crackers and crisp vegetables, and the best pairing with white wine. Although hummus is made from chickpeas (garbanzo beans), there are a certain number of recipes found online, using different types of beans such as black beans, white beans, kidney beans, you name it. Among them, edamame hummus seems to gain the popularity (possibly thanks to Trader Joe’s).
Hummus is a great way to eat edamame with guests. When you invite people over, you can cook it before their arrival and serve instantly. Colorful vegetables and this green color of edamame will make the dish look delicious and well prepared. Unlike edamame in shells, it is easy to eat and keep their hands clean. The important thing to note is that it goes well with any kind of drinks!
Edamame Hummus

- Olive Oil – 1/4 cup
- Garlic – 1 cloves
- Lemon juice – 2 tablespoons
- Tahini paste or white sesame paste – 3 tablespoons
- Grated Cheese – 1 tablespoon
- Cayenne pepper -1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cumin(powder) – 1/2 teaspoon
- 2 to 3 tablespoons water, as necessary
How to cook
1. Put the chilled edamame in a food processor and grind until smooth.
2. Add the rest of ingredients and grind until smooth.
3. Serve on a plate with crackers and crisp vegetables.
Points
- If you don’t have a food processor, use a hand mixer or mortar.
- Smoothness is adjusted by the amount of water.
- When edamame are boiled, the water to be added can be replaced with cooking water. In that case, it contains a lot of salt, so be careful about the total amount of salt.
